In 2018, the Mississippi High School Activities Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations sanctioned esports as an activity for student participation. As part of this state initiative, each school has the opportunity to establish an esports program through the PlayVS online platform. The season begins in October and culminates at the end of February. Rocket League is played in teams of three with SMITE and League of Legends is played in teams of five.
Saint Stanislaus formed the Rock-A-Chaw Rockets to compete in this new esports competition. The team got off to a terrific start by finishing second in state in its inaugural 2019 season.
