Giving Frequently Asked Questions

I am a parent paying tuition. Why should I donate money as well?

Your financial gift supports the people and programs that make Saint Stanislaus an exceptional school for young men. Financial gifts allow Saint Stanislaus to employ talented teachers, small classes, and offer a variety of academic classes. Financial gifts allow Saint Stanislaus to offer high quality programming from arts to athletics.

Financial gifts are necessary because tuition only makes up approximately 70 percent of the cost of a Saint Stanislaus education. For these reasons, we must turn to current parents, grandparents, past parents, alums, and friends for additional financial support.

Why does Saint Stanislaus simply raise tuition rather than ask for gifts?

Saint Stanislaus does not increase tuition to cover the actual cost of all programs because it would make the school unaffordable to many families. We want our school to be accessible to all students regardless of the family’s financial position.

What is planned giving?

Planned giving is sometimes referred to as gift planning or legacy giving. It is a way to support non-profits (Saint Stanislaus) that enable philanthropic individuals to make larger gifts than they could make from ordinary income. A planned gift is any major gift, made in a lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning.

What are some types of planned gifts?

  • Bequests: Bequests are made primarily through gifts of cash, securities, real estate, and tangible personal property.
  • Life Income Gifts: With life income gifts, Saint Stanislaus invests the proceeds of your donated assets – whether in the form of cash, securities, or other appreciated property – and pays you, or designated beneficiaries, an income for life or for a specified term of years.
  • Retirement Plans: Saint Stanislaus is designated as a beneficiary of the remainder or a percentage of your retirement plan.
  • Other Creative Methods: Charitable lead trusts and other options.

For more information on ways to make a planned gift, please contact Joseph Lee, Director of Advancement at josephlee@ststan.com or (228) 467-9057 x 255.

How can I find out if my company will match my gift?

The Human Resources Office of the donor’s employer (or the donor’s spouse’s employer) will be able to provide necessary information on the company’s Matching Gift Program and the method the company uses to process matching requests.

How do I ask my company to match my gift?

A matching gift is when an individual chooses to give to a nonprofit organization (Saint Stanislaus) and their employer donates an equal or greater amount to the same organization. A matching gift is a great way for a donor to increase his or her contribution to Saint Stanislaus.

Depending on the size of your company, you may want to contact the HR department and/or senior management. When delivering your presentation to the leadership, it is important to highlight the numerous benefits that come with this proposal. These benefits include but are not limited to a decrease in employee turnover, tax advantages for the company, and the convenience of setting up and maintaining the system. Moreover, matching is an optional additional benefit.

Can I make a confidential donation?

Yes, please let us know if you wish your gift remains confidential.

Can I make a gift in honor or in memory of someone?

Yes, gifts in memory or in honor of an individual can be made during one’s lifetime or through bequests. Please indicate this preference while making your gift, and please include the honoree’s class year, as appropriate.
