Housey Named STAR Student

Saint Stanislaus is proud to announce that senior Boyd Housey has been named the school’s 2018 STAR student in the Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition Program. Housey earned this recognition by achieving the highest ACT score of this year’s senior class, he scored a 34 out of a possible 36. Housey recognized Saint Stanislaus French and English AP teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Kayes, as his STAR teacher who has had the most influence on his high school educational career. The STAR Student-Teacher Recognition (STAR) Program is sponsored by the Mississippi Economic Council and its M.B. Swayze Educational Foundation.

Boyd, son of Mary and John Housey of Pass Christian, MS, has achieved President’s Honor Roll every semester throughout high school. He is a member of the Brother Peter Basso Chapter of the National Honor Society and a three-year member of the Saint Stanislaus Quiz Bowl team. As a six-year letterman of the Saint Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaw swim team, Boyd was a two-time captain and a member of the 2016 State Championship team.

Outside of school, Boyd sails for the Southern Yacht Club. He was recognized as the Most Outstanding Junior Sailor in 2015 and was named the Southern Yacht Club Junior Team Captain in 2015 and 2016. Boyd previously served as the Rear Commodore for the Gulf Yachting Association.

Saint Stanislaus STAR Teacher Jennifer Kayes commended Housey on his work ethic in the classroom: “Boyd has a promising future ahead. He has been an asset to my classes: working tirelessly to surpass expectations, participating in creative and thoughtful ways, and demonstrating intellectual curiosity. I have enjoyed teaching him and wish him the best.”

Housey plans to study Finance at Georgetown University.

Mrs. Jennifer Kayes is in her fifth year as a Saint Stanislaus faculty member and 16th year of education. Kayes earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and a minor in English from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters of Art in Secondary Education from William Carey University. She also studied International Business at Ecole Superieur du Commerce Exterieur in Courbevoie, France.

The Saint Stanislaus STAR Student and Teacher were honored at the Mississippi Economic Council’s Education Celebration with all of Mississippi’s STAR Students and STAR Teachers.
